The integration of migrants and the respect of fundamental rights and EU values in all Member States will be the centrepieces of two debates at the European Committee of the Regions' (CoR) plenary on 10-11 April. Dimitris Avramopoulos, EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, will take part in the launch of the CoR's new " Cities and Regions for Integration " initiative, while Koen Lenaerts, President of the Court of Justice of the European Union, and Frans Timmermans, First Vice-President of the European Commission, will assess current threats to fundamental rights and EU values.
The launch of the "Cities And Regions for Integration of Migrants" Initiative #Regions4Integration will take place on 10 April at 15:00. Since 2015, the European Committee of the Regions has provided a full set of recommendations across the European Agenda on Migration. The Committee now wants to focus greater attention on a particular aspect of migration in which local and regional authorities are critical – integration – and provide a platform for regions, cities and smaller communities to share their experiences and positive stories.
Commissioner Avramopoulos will be the key speaker at the launch of the initiative. He will be joined by: Valeria Mancinelli, Mayor of Ancona and winner of the World Mayors Prize 2018; and Annika Tännström, leader of the Västra Götaland region in Sweden.
Location: European Parliament - Paul Henri Spaak building, Hemicycle
Date: Wednesday, 10 April, 3pm-6pm; Thursday, 11 April, 9am-1pm.
The plenary will be streamed live on the CoR website
