International High Level Conference on Social Economy and Social Entrepreneurship

16/04/2018 to 17/04/2018

The international conference “Social economy – for an economically sustainable and socially inclusive EU” will take place on 16 and 17 April in the Boyana Residence in Sofia. The conference aims to encourage the exchange of views on the challenges and opportunities for the future of the social economy in the context of the digital revolution and inclusive growth.

The two-day forum will gather politicians from EU and candidate countries, representatives of international organisations, social partners and civil society organisations. The panellists will discuss the ways the social economy can better respond to and contribute to the needs of inclusive economic growth.

The discussions will also focus on improving the understanding of the role of the social economy in addressing some of the major challenges that Europe is facing in creating sustainable and decent jobs, improving social justice for all and reducing inequalities.

The participants at the conference will examine the ways the social economy could become sustainable and will discuss the favourable conditions for a strong social economy in the European Union. The panel will focus on impact investing, financial tools and favourable conditions for a strong social economy.

The conference participants will also discuss ways to foster the social and labour integration of disadvantaged groups as well as the development of the silver economy and the role of women in the social economy.

During a Ministerial Round Table, the conference participants will consider ways in which the social economy can contribute to the convergence of social protection systems and socio-political solutions at a European level.
