7th meeting of the ESF Thematic Network on Inclusion took place in Warsaw, Poland, on 9th May 2018 and was preceded by the European Conference ‘Promoting Rights-Based Work with Homeless People with support from the ESF’ on 8th May. The Conference was organized by Polish National Federation for Solving Problem of Homelessness and FEANTSA, the European Federation of National Organisations working with Homeless.
The Conference addressed the topic of the Homeless Bill of Rights and its implementation in Poland. Adam Bodnar, Commissioner for Human Rights in Poland, gave an opening speech, followed by discussions among Polish and European NGOs and researchers. The Housing First – approach that supports homeless by giving them access to immediate and sustainable housing – was a red thread in the discussions on human-rights based approach to homelessness and Homeless Bill of Rights. Two examples – from Ireland and Finland – of Housing First were presented at the Conference. The Conference also gave the opportunity to Polish project promoters to search for transnational partners for Polish ESF call for project proposals on homelessness and domestic violence. Polish project promoters interested in applying for a call and project promoters or representatives of organizations from other EU countries could exchange ideas, find connections and make partnerships during the ‘speed-dating’ session at the end of the Conference.
The meeting of the ESF Thematic Network on Inclusion continued the work of the network on the theme of homelessness. Participants could learn about recent developments concerning ESF and its use in the area of homelessness at the EU level. The use of the ESF and FEAD for supporting homeless in Italy was also presented at the meeting. Participants shared information on the impact of the ESF transnational cooperation in their countries and made recommendations for future work of the network in terms its format and thematic coverage.
Next meeting of the Thematic Network on Inclusion will take place in Madrid on 20th and 21st September 2018. The meeting will address the topic of active inclusion and will be organized in collaboration with the European Network on Minimum Income (EMIN).
