The European Commission consults the Member States on ESCO

The European Commission launched on the 1st of July 2016 a targeted on-line consultation to the ESCO Member States Working Group. Member States are invited to provide comments on the adequacy of ESCO’s final draft to map their national classifications systems and to allow for a more precise exchange of information in EURES than the currently used ISCO-08 classification.

The consultation will be opened until 1st of September 2016. The feedback received will be taken into consideration by the Commission to implement potential improvements in the final stages of the ESCO development. The Member States will be consulted again at the end of the year on the linguistic versions of ESCO after their translation. The release of ESCO version 1 in 24 languages is scheduled for the first Quarter of 2017.

Member States will have the opportunity to see and comment on the prerelease of ESCO version 1, which will be available online. This prerelease version is a final draft of the occupations and the skills and competence pillar in English language. It contains around 3000 occupations and 12 000 skills. Since the qualifications pillar will mirror the qualifications from the National Qualifications databases, which are owned by the Member States themselves, the qualification pillar of ESCO will not be included in the current consultation.
