National skills classifications

In order to support online job search, competence-based job matching, career guidance, the search for learning opportunities and other use cases, several Member States complemented their national occupational classifications with classifications covering knowledge, skills, competences or related domains, such as work activities. In some Member States regional or sectoral skills classifications exist as well.

The level of detail and structure in such skills classifications differ. Some Member States maintain simple word lists, while others structure their skills classifications and connect them with occupations or qualification standards.

National skills classifications or lists can be mapped to ESCO in order to achieve semantic interoperability between them.
