Peter VIS is an Adviser at the European Commission’s European Political Strategy Centre since 1 April 2018. After working in particular with Mr Jos DELBEKE, a Senior Adviser and former Director-General of the Commission’s Directorate-General for Climate Action, he is now advising the Sustainable Development Team.

He was previously an Adviser in DG MOVE (Transport & Mobility) where he specialised in the decarbonisation of transport.

Peter was the 2014-2015 EU Visiting Fellow at St. Antony’s College, Oxford University, UK. He has worked for the European Commission for 28 years, mostly in the areas of climate change, renewable energy and transport. From 2010-2014 he was Head of Cabinet to the European Commissioner for Climate Action, Connie Hedegaard. He also worked in the Cabinet of Andris Piebalgs, European Commissioner for Energy from 2007-2010.

Prior to working at the European Commission, Peter worked for HM Customs & Excise (now HM Revenue & Customs) in the UK. He graduated from Cambridge University, UK, with a Master of Arts degree in History (1986).
