HM Prison Oakwood's First Family Conference

Postat de sandy watson 3 luni 4 săptămâni în urmă

Miercuri 22 Mai 2019
Featherstone, Wolverhampton

HMP Oakwood will be hosting their first ever free family conference. The event will take place on the prison grounds and as such guests must bring photo ID and have their name confirmed on the guest list before they will be granted entry.

Location: HM Prison Oakwood, Featherstone, near Wolverhampton, Staffordshire

Time: 10:00-15:30

Date: 22 May 2019

Agenda can be found here.

The conference will consider the concept of ‘normalisation’, how it has been learned from Danish prisons and how it is impacting the family agenda in prisons in the UK. Normalisation refers to the features of the Danish prison system – to replicate the outside world as closely as possible inside the prison and to focus on rehabilitation rather than punishment, which has been shown to be much more effective in reducing future crime. After making an application to the ERASMUS+ programme for funding, a group of HMP Oakwood staff, an ex-prisoner and one of their family members made a trip to Denmark to see inspirational family work in prisons. The conference will feed back on this trip and consider how to collate results, recode data to benefit future family learning activities. Previously achieved family innovations will also be discussed.

The event is best suited to those working with prisoners and families, and who need some support and inspiration to assist them in achieving their goals. It will also be of interest to people who have an active role in changing policy and the ability to move things forward on a wider reaching level. Keynote speaker Lord Farmer will be speaking at the event.

Guests are asked to confirm whether they have dietary requirements or any other needs that should be addressed ahead of the event. This information can be provided via the contact details supplied.
