If you are interested in knowing more about adults attending MOOCs, you will discover that there is still little research on this specific group, representing a minority of the users. New insights are now available which have emerged from a study I published in a book edited by Springer that includes researches presented at the 7th International Workshop on Learning Technology for Education Challenges, (LTEC 2018), titled: What Learning Professionals Should Know.

Studies on implementation of newly acquired skills show that without support mechanisms, learning itself does not result in knowledge and new skills being used in the workplace. A research conducted by the Partners of “Extended Learning Support System (ELSS)” Project confirms employers and HR departments’ desire for a tool that would support implementation of training effects into the workplace. The respondents of the research agreed that such tool, available online, would help to grow their organizations.

Spotlight on COCADE, the Erasmus+ partnership project supporting the exchange of good practices in the education and training sector (VET), coordinated by the Cité des Métiers International Network

In keeping up with developments in society, and in considering the increasing range of choices and opportunities, everywhere in the world more attention is paid to lifelong learning and informed choices in education and working life, to the effective support of this process, and to the increasing role of mobility in expanding the range of options for people. There’s also a clear need in Estonia to ensure the availability of quality services and professionalism of experts. The daily work of career specialists means to support the development of their clients, but it’s also important to take care of their own professionalism, and for this purpose, there’re many opportunities in Estonia and abroad.

There is no question of the importance of career development classes for high school students, starting right away from the junior year. The more bothering question is who should deal with career classes and how often and what kind of material should be used. Is it supposed to be a universal task portfolio that is available for all teachers or should we give the freedom to be creative?

Contemporary education, the world of work, and career guidance and counseling as well, recognize different starting points, strengths and resources for different groups of people. As practitioners in these areas, it is evident that some clients have different problems to access the world of work and education. For example, some of them might have problems with physical or mental health or they are living in deprived and/or violent environment. We recognize that working with people from vulnerable groups requires specific education and specific programs of work. In the next lines we will present the key points that should be conisdered when it comes to planning and delivering career guidance services for adults from vulnerable groups.

Sarah Bates Evoy shares a snippet from her article that draws attention to a closing window of opportunity for some Further Education and Training practitioners in Ireland, to gain full registration with the Teaching Council as ‘Further Education teachers’ without having a Teaching Council recognised teacher education qualification.

Everyone is concerned about the future and they are forced to make choices now. But you cannot make choices in darkness. Choices they say are the hinges of your destiny.

Contrary to popular belief, career choices is not about what the market conditions are or of the dynamics of ever changing economy. It is about the strengths, powers, competencies, intelligence, likes, preferences and feelings of the individual based on their genetics and upbringing.

Since 2012, the French coordination of EAAL has been conducting action-research work on the issue of transverse skills.. The aim is to equip professionals in their roles of guidance, social and professional integration with low skilled adults. The notion of “transverse” refers here to a set of skills that can be mobilized in various professional situations. They range in 5 dimensions: organization/ adaptability and autonomy/ sociability/ communication/ initiative and participation.

Career guidance and counselling (CGC) is increasingly being recognised as an important tool in education and employment policy, one that can support and facilitate lifelong learning. The contemporary environment requires individuals to develop their careers in a more flexible and less predictable way than previously, with lifelong mobility between education and the labour market, between employers and vocations.
