Learning is a social, emotional and cognitive process. While the last is most strongly emphasized in many classrooms, the other two aspects are sometimes even ignored. However, we believe that the social and emotional processes of learning are the crucial part to increase motivation to learn. Since, in our opinion, teachers play a key role in influencing their students' motivation and learning outcomes, we see a need for professional development of teachers, especially in the context of disadvantaged learners.

Support of DVV International to the institutions responsible for creating and implementing adult education policies continues in Sarajevo Canton too. There are many way to define non-formal education or to determine its difference from and relation with formal and informal education. At the same time, there is no comprehensive model with enough explanatory power to address these different perspectives. Also, SMART as a concept could be understood and utilized in different ways. With this in mind, our team has developed one tailored conceptualization of SMART, benefiting from the rich portfolio of practice cases provided by our project partners. The presented conceptualization covers the original four EduCitizens categories (citizenship, engagement, participation and education).

In this blog post we would like to present a case study for ErasmusPlus project Migrants and Refugees as Re-builders Erasmus+, Cross-border Intercultural and Societal Entrepreneurs (2016-1-UK01-KA204-024623).

If you consider the origins of Europe, it becomes apparent just how unique and daunting the European project truly is: former enemies create a community that is in charge of peace and cooperation and to which they should yield. Today, in light of all of the challenges, not much of this sentiment remains—or does it?

“Let’s talk about Europe!” That was the slogan of the “Citizens’ Dialogue on Europe’s Future” (in German: Bürgerdialog zur Zukunft Europas), which took place between August and October 2018 at around 30 adult education centres from ten federal states in Germany. Following the success of that series, the report about the Europe dialogue was dispatched to Brussels. At present, numerous adult education centres are also focusing on the upcoming European elections. Their efforts include arranging conversations between interested citizens and candidates for the European Parliament. Read more about the project here.
