Electronic Platform for Adult Learning in Europe



The EBSN EPALE Team is glad to announce its first online course for policy-makers, experts and other professionals who have a stake in basic skills policy and are currently engaged in the implementation of the Upskilling Pathways recommendation. The four-week long MOOC is addressing the policy level of basic skills provision in the context the Upskilling Pathway.

4th International Meeting of partner organizations, The HR Club of Moravia and Silesia (Czech Republic), Together (Bulgaria) and CooLabora (Portugal) took place on 14 April 2019 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The Erasmus+ project „Gender Education Advancing Competencies in Context of Changing Europe“ is financed by the European Union and the implementers discussed further progress of emerging Gender Blended Learning.

E-learning training related to gender equality will be launched during May 2019.

TÜBİTAK research project titled “Development of a learning environment to support parents’ competencies of raising digital citizens” started on 15.09.2015, which was initiated by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Işıl KABAKÇI YURDAKUL, the researcher at Anadolu University Faculty of Education Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology has been concluded on 15.09.2018.

EPALE national support service in Serbia announced the winning blogs on the recently finished Call for blogs on the topic "Digital and online adult learning".

A total of 29 authors participated in this contest, whose aim was to promote best practices, innovative methods of learning, successful individuals, organizations and institutions in the field of adult education in Serbia.

The Education & Training Foundation (ETF) have now launched their Enhance Digital Teaching Platform. The platform will enable teachers, trainers and assessors to understand the potential of incorporating digital technologies to improve the experience of their learners. ETF will be providing several platform training sessions over February 2019 and March 2019, allowing users to become confident in using the platform and giving them the opportunity to ask any questions they might have about it.

The training on digital skills for adults has been launched by the Public Education Center in Toprakkale. The aim of the training is to improve the adults’ digital skills and help them to learn how to use technological devices efficiently. Besides, adults attending the training have a great time while learning, which is a good opportunity to socialize with one another and have good friendships.

The computer lab is open 7/24 for free for everybody.

If you are interested in knowing more about adults attending MOOCs, you will discover that there is still little research on this specific group, representing a minority of the users. New insights are now available which have emerged from a study I published in a book edited by Springer that includes researches presented at the 7th International Workshop on Learning Technology for Education Challenges, (LTEC 2018), titled: What Learning Professionals Should Know.

This is the first of a two-part blog focusing on the rise of online learning and the benefits and challenges it can present for teachers. This part will help teachers to understand the benefits of online teaching and the various ways it can improve their quality of life and the overall teaching experience.

Studies on implementation of newly acquired skills show that without support mechanisms, learning itself does not result in knowledge and new skills being used in the workplace. A research conducted by the Partners of “Extended Learning Support System (ELSS)” Project confirms employers and HR departments’ desire for a tool that would support implementation of training effects into the workplace. The respondents of the research agreed that such tool, available online, would help to grow their organizations.

2019 2nd International Conference on Future Learning (ICFL 2019) will be held in University of Barcelona, Spain during December 18-20, 2019. Najčešći uzroci neuspešnog onlajn obrazovanja u visokoobrazovnom kontekstu proizilaze iz tendencije da se tradicionalne obrazovne postavke implementiraju u onlajn obrazovna okruženja. Preciznije, visokoškolski nastavnici u onlajn obrazovanju se često posmatraju kao superiorni nosioci znanja i njihova simplifikovana uloga je da ta znanja prenesu studentima, dok su studenti pasivni usvojioci znanja.

Most of the research efforts were made to investigate digital competence of teachers in secondary schools. However, little attention has been paid to the analysis of digital teaching competence of andragogues in adult education institutions. The aim of the study is to analyse the digital teaching competence of adult educators in Lithuania. The empirical study was carried out in Lithuania in 2017. Data collection was based on a questionnaire. The sample included 120 adult educators from various adult education institutions.

This resource was created by the Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership ‘We Are One’ – Altogether Better. It is an e-inventory focusing on the discrimination of minorities in Europe, considering the reasons behind discrimination and what support can be offered to improve the experiences of minority groups. The partner countries include the UK, Spain, Italy and Sweden.

The two resources were gathered by Focus Groups as part of the DIGIT project. The target groups (adult educators, adults and other relevant stakeholders such as digital experts and public body representatives) were brought together to discuss the issues, dangers and opportunities of the digital world. The Focus groups results were illustrated by an infographic and one of the results of the Manifesto is a one-page document comprising 20 useful tips for becoming a responsible digital user and citizen.

White paper issued by American organization InSync with some expert advice, opinions and inspirations from different educators including people from universtites and companies. 

Michelle Israel collected educators contributions and prepared short e-book (19 pages) starting from definitions and presenting more advanced issues as roles, stakeholders etc. The invited contributors are quoted all over the e-book. 

I have been involved in electronic education for more than 10 years and I have been using different webinar systems in my work. Adobe Connect is one of the most important for us, which we actively use during communication with clients and which we connect to their e-learning systems. Another one I would mention is the open source platform BigBlueButton, which is fully integrated with various LMS (in our case LMS Moodle). For meetings and trainings for clients I have also used other systems, such as WebEx, or Skype for Business.
