This handbook is one of the results of the project titled "Professionalization of Literacy and Basic Education –Basic Modules for Teacher Training - TRAIN" (a multilateral Socrates Grundtvig 1 project), coordinated by the German Institute for Adult Education (DIE) Leibniz Centre for Lifelong Learning. The project partners were the following adult learning organisations German Institute for Adult Education (DIE), Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT), National Agency to Fight Illiteracy (ANLCI), Cyprus Adult Education Association (CAEA), Slovenian Institute for Adult Education (ACS), Swiss Federation for Adult Learning (SVEB).
After reviewing existing education practices as well as identifying essential skills and competences for teachers of adult literacy and other basic skills the project partners elaborated a handbook including a MODEL for the general education of teachers of adult literacy and other basic skills. The model incorporates five basic modules:
Module 1: Social marketing communications,
Module 2: Principles of adult learning in the field of literacy and basic education – An introduction,
Module 3: Project work in literacy and basic education,
Module 4: Individual learning and ICT skills in literacy and basic education,
Module 5: Learning counselling in literacy and basic education.
This handbook includes guidelines, concept of teacher training modules, learning materials, good practice examples in the field of literacy and basic education.
The handbook is available in five langiages: English, German, French, Slovenian and Greek.
