EBSN Capacity Building Series

The European Basic Skills Network (EBSN) will soon launch a new Capacity Building Series for European stakeholders, designed to support policy makers and adult educators involved in the Upskilling Pathways initiative.

As basic skills are a core element of the initiative, the EBSN wants to contribute to raising the level of knowledge of stakeholders in all EU countries that are planning to implement Upskilling Pathways in their national systems.

The EBSN Capacity Building Series will consist of units built as open educational resources (OERs). The first pilot unit is titled ‘Basic skills and VET’. The preliminary list of OER units to be launched in 2018 includes the following themes:

  • Numeracy: why and how
  • Literacy and digital skills
  • Workplace learning
  • Family learning
  • Basic skills for migrants
  • Basic skills in prison education

Based on these OERs, the EBSN will later develop a course structure, evaluation systems and virtual qualifications (badges). The first pilot unit will be published on EPALE soon.

The EBSN has also launched a survey where stakeholders are welcome to share their feedback on the Capacity Building Series, including:

  • suggestions for additional themes in the Capacity Building Series
  • ideas about MOOC courses and their target audiences
  • suggestions for good-quality resources for the OER units
