The Kickoff event of EPALE in Albania was held on 19th of May at Hotel Xheko Imperial in Tirana. The first event for promoting EPALE in Albania was attended by approximately seventy participants from public and private providers of adult learning, participants from other projects operating in the same field in Albania and adult learners from Vocational Training Centers.
The representative of Ministry of Social Welfare and Youth at this event, Mrs. Silvana Banushi, General Director of Employment and VET Policies, welcomed the participants emphasizing the importance and need for attention of Adult Learning in Albania as an excellent way to improve economic growth and adult life improvement, increase basic life skills of adults, strengthen the collaboration of relevant institutions and to fill the need for digital skills.
In this context, Mrs. Marcela Çekiçi, who is a postwoman and at the same time studying to receive her High School Degree, was very happy to share her story of going back to school at the age of 45. She is a motivated student and despite the difficulties she gets rewarded with her progress at school and doesn’t think to stop after graduating. She wants to continue further with a bachelor degree. She acknowledged all the dilemmas that one can have when thinking of going back to school not at a typical high school age. However, Marcela is very confident that the choice she made is the best one and will make her more fulfilled and definitely open many opportunities to her.
Mrs. Gerda Sula (Ph D), lecturer of Educational Sciences at the University of Tirana and EPALE ambassador, shared some of the assumptions on Adult Learning and use of technology by adults. Mrs. Sula emphasized that EPALE was designed and developed having in focus adult learning and the use of technology to support the development of policies and practices in this sector.
The main objective of this event was to share the communication strategy that the project team is going to implement to reach out experts and other stakeholders of Adult Learning in Albania, which was presented by Mr. Sonila Limaj, General Director of NAVETQ (National Agency of Vocational Education, Training and Qualification). Mrs. Limaj’s invitation for working together was addressed to the participants and other stakeholders, reminding them that EPALE was made by and for experts and professionals of Adult Learning.
During this event, the engagement and input of all participants was very active and effective in the second part, where participants were organized in five working groups. They were asked to identify how they will benefit from integrating EPALE in their everyday life and which feature would fit more to their kind of work. The results showed that exchanging information with peers in other countries and pairing with other organizations for implementing various initiatives were the two main benefits. In some cases, the platform could be seen as a promotion tool for their work.
At the end of the presentations some participants volunteered to become EPALE Ambassadors, which paves the way to a successful promotion of the platform and strengthening the discussion of Adult Learning to a wider and most relevant audience.
