SOLAS funds, coordinates and monitors Further Education and Training (FET) provision by Education and Training Boards (ETBs) on behalf of the Department of Education and Skills.
In 2018, the sixteen Education and Training Boards supported over 300,000 beneficiaries, delivering education and training across 33 skills clusters including, but not limited to, built environment, engineering, food and beverage, information technology and tourism.
The Further Education and Training Act 2013 requires SOLAS to prepare and submit a strategy in respect of further education and training every five years to the Minister for Education and Skills. The first such strategy, Further Education and Training Strategy 2014-2019, was published in 2014 and has resulted in progress in the development of the FET sector. As the current Strategy will conclude at the end of 2019, work is now beginning on preparing and developing a new Further Education and Training Strategy for the period 2020-2024.
Submissions are now invited from interested parties to assist SOLAS and the Department of Education and Skills in defining the strategic direction of Further Education and Training in Ireland within this period and up to the year 2024.
The deadline for submissions is close of business on Wednesday 29th May 2019.
To make a submission as part of this consultation, please follow the link Further Education and Training Strategy 2020 - 2024
Alternatively download the form here and email the completed form to FETStrategy@solas.ie. Hard copies of submissions will not be accepted.
