In April EPALE had a special focus on validation of prior learning. At the end of April The 2nd VPL Biennale in Aarhus Denmark brought together validation experts from all around the world.  Over 150 adult education experts shared knowledge and ideas on the practice of validation of prior learning: the user in the center.

Read the Interview with Ernesto Villaba.

Validation - State of play in South Africa in a nutshell. Interview with the Heidi Bolton, Research Director, the South African Qualifications Authority.

Gina Ebner form EAEA shares her views on how the make competences gained in non-formal settings visible. Read also Gina’s blog Validation for low-qualified adults: 11 recommendations in EPALE.

Ernesto Villalba, CEDEFOP, talks about validation in the workplace.

Anna Kahlsson, MYH, discusses how the EQF/NQF development in different countries can enhance stakeholder collaboration in validation.

Ruud Duvekot, EC-VPL, explains why it is important that the individual is at the centre of the validation process.

Why Biennale?

The 2nd VPL Biennale aims at strengthening the platform for policy makers, practitioners, users, researchers and other stakeholders that are involved in further developing/implementing VPL.

The mission of the 2nd VPL Biennale is to share information, knowledge, ideas and visions on the practice of VPL: the user in the center. The user is understood as the learner, the worker, the unemployed, the teacher/trainer, the employer, the trade unionist, etc.

The central theme of the 2nd VPL Biennale focuses on the alluring perspective of the integration of VPL in running processes and in systems of learning and working! It’s time for practising VPL!

The crucial question to be answered in this respect is how to further implement VPL as an effective method in lifelong learning perspectives, being able to integrate all citizens effectively and quality-assured into lifelong learning strategies at all levels and in all environments and contexts?

...if you are not attending. This event will bring the creme de la creme of validation of non-formal and informal learning together from all around the world. And - at the same time - it is validation theme month in EPALE!

These sneak peeks are just a few of the central themes which will be dealt with in the Biennale. All educational sectors, working life, NGOs, educational authorities and researchers will concentrate on the different contexts and aspects of validation for two days. There will be a lot of material available during and after the seminar in EPALE. Just follow, comment and share! #VPL2017 is the magic tag!

    Really exciting!
