Forest Pedagogic congress - new teaching methods

10/10/2018
by Liga Abizare

The European Forest Pedagogics Congress is organised annually to provide a platform for the exchange of experiences and for the discussion of currently relevant topics or challenges for forest pedagogy in Europe.

The next Forest Pedagogics Congress will be held in Latvia, 1.-4. July, 2019.

This internet-platform forestpedagogics.eu intends to develop as an europeanwide forum for information and communication about forest pedagogics. It wants to show important data, activities, materials and networks of foresters, forest pedagogs an other actors in forest-related education for sustainable development.

The 6th UNECE - Ministerial Conference “Environment for Europe” of the ministers of education and of the environment (Belgrade, Oct. 2007) underlines the importance of education on the environment and on sustainable development:

“Confirming our vision for the future, which is of a region that embraces common values of solidarity, equality and mutual respect between people, countries and generations, confirming the importance of the principle of sustainable management of natural resources, poverty eradication, and sustainable consumption and production, and enhances justice and civil rights, gender equality and the rights of children, reaffirming the importance of education for sustainable development as a tool for capacity-building that enables people to make this vision a reality.”

What do You think? Can Forest pedogogics offer new ideas and approaches to teaching methods, themes and environment?

Methodical manual "Bioeconomics in schools"
In Latvia, a new methodic manual was opened for promoting entrepreneurship in the forestry sector "Bioeconomics in schools". This textbook is designed to promote student entrepreneurship in the Latvian forest industry. This material will be useful to science teachers in natural sciences, economics, and social sciences, as well as other sciences that create an interdisciplinary educational process for grades 5 to 12 under the slogan "For Greener Latvia".
The material is based on skills-based education and which provides young people in the learning process with the opportunity to use different resources, evaluate the opportunities offered and make choices. This material helps young people to change their thinking from irresponsible to responsible consumers, achieving a deeper understanding of the role of forest resources in the development of the Latvian economy.
