EPALE Social Media and Adult Learning


Das EPALE-Schwerpunktthema im Monat Februar bilden die sozialen Medien in der Erwachsenenbildung.

Es gibt viele Pädagogen und Ausbilder, in deren Augen die sozialen Medien Lernenden bestenfalls als Unterhaltungsmittel und schlimmstenfalls als Ablenkung dienen. Mit weltweit über 3 Milliarden Nutzern sozialer Medien lässt sich  die Attraktivität von Community-Plattformen und sozialen Netzwerken jedoch nicht mehr leugnen. Immer größerer Beliebtheit erfreut sich daher das Thema der Nutzung sozialer Medien im Bildungsbereich, um das Lernen interaktiver und ansprechender zu gestalten.

Soziale Medien können nicht nur von Lernenden, sondern auch von Pädagogen und Ausbildern als Instrument der Peer-to-Peer-Kommunikation genutzt werden. Zudem können sie die Kommunikation zwischen Pädagogen und Lernenden verbessern oder zur einer interaktiveren Gestaltung der Lehrmethoden beitragen. Ihre Hauptaufgabe besteht darin, den Zugang zu Informationen zu ermöglichen, was sie zu einem nützlichen Instrument für nicht-formales und informelles Lernen macht.

    Dear all, within our project Spaces for Intercultural Learning we are exploring collaboration and learning in a virtual space on the Yammer platform. A major goal of the project is increasing intercultural competences among adult learning educators as well as the target groups that they are working with. The project aims to reach that goal in several ways, and one of them is in our online space in the shape of a Community of Practice.
    The idea of the online CoP was introduced as a tool for reflection for the adult educators of the participating project partners. Ask, share, reflect and learn: those are our main interactive activities.
    We will be sharing our experiences in a guidebook towards the end of the project. Meanwhile I can already tell you that it has been a most interesting experience. 
    At the start of this Community of Practice it was decided to create a private group for the members/participants instead of a public group, in order to have a safe space to work together. For many of the project members experience with online Communities of Practice was limited, especially in an international setting.
    What do you think: would you also have chosen a private space or would you have opened it up to anyone interested in the topic of intercultural learning / intercultural competence development ?
    I'm curious to hear your views on this !

    It is called 'Social media' but it must be used in a balanced way. Otherway; as we see around ; it makes people Asocial. It is a very pity that some says thousands of friends I have on social medias but we can not see any around him/her. They wander around single all the time.

    It brings us oceans of benefits of course if we overcome dangers and bad side-effects. Education is one of them and nowadays is being transported. But I have some hesitations about its results in the future.

    Dear all,
    Perhaps one of the main concerns regarding social media for adults is to ensure that people know how to identify dangers that the Internet brings and know how to take the necessary precautions. The commitment to the acquisition and consolidation of safety behaviors will be one of the pedagogical measures that any adult educator must incorporate in the work he develops with adults.
    Can anyone testify to how you handle such problems?

    Dear Fernando, I work directly on the analysis of the source. For the teaching of Italian literature and for history I provide a list of safe sources, so as not to have the problem of hoax news. The collation of the sources or, as my professor of Didactics of history says, the "grammatica dei documenti" is the starting point. The teacher is a mentor and leads his adult pupils, well aware of the fallacious news that can be found on the web and willing to not fall into traps.

    Lavoro in un corso serale. Insegno lettere in un percorso di II livello (classi terza, quarta e quinta - secondo e terzo periodo didattico). Partendo dalla mia esperienza quotidiana in classe ritengo che i social siano strumenti utili per questi motivi.  
    1) Whatsapp è utile per contattare velocemente gli alunni (e colleghi) e inviare loro documenti di approfondimento (si evitano così le fotocopie) e link per curiosità e altro (è necessario però un'analisi della fonte)
    2) Le piattaforme didattiche mettono in contatto gli alunni che non possono frequentare (per lavoro o per motivi personali) con il docente e con la scuola sì da non rimanere indietro (la FAD è prevista dalla normativa sui CPIA); molto utili sono le applicazioni di google.
    3) Uso Facebook solo per contatti con altri colleghi che lavorano nel campo dell'istruzione degli adulti (non ho amicizia con i miei alunni): ritengo che questo strumento sia usato molto a livello privato e non confondo il privato con il lavoro.

    Rimango ancora ancorata al testo cartaceo per l'analisi dei testi letterari. Ultimamente, tuttavia, sto portando avanti progetti di creazione di ebook digitali tramite Epubeditor: le competenze letterarie e quelle informatiche si fondono piacevolmente perché di fatto si analizza sempre la competenza della lettura e della scrittura, fondamentale per adulti e non solo.

    Gli adulti imparano nuove strategie e si sentono inseriti in un contesto più snello grazie a questi strumenti, ma mai esagerando. "Est modus in rebus": Orazio docet.
