2nd RBMPs (2016-2021)
The eight RBMPs for mainland Portugal were adopted by the Council of Ministers on the 8th of June 2016 and published in the Official Journal on the 20th of September 2016. The RBMP for the Azores has been adopted by the Regional Parliament on 18 January 2017.The RBMP for Madeira was adopted on the 15th of December 2016.

Portugal has ten river basin districts (eight in mainland Portugal, one in the Azores archipelago and one in Madeira archipelago), out of which four (Minho, Douro, Tejo e Guadiana) are international sharing water courses with Spain.
- The RBMPs for mainland Portugal were approved by each River Basin District Council and by the National Water Authority of the Portuguese Environment Agency, and were published on the National Water Authority's website between August and early September 2012. The RBMPs were reported to the Commission by the end of October 2012.
