EU Ecolabel facts and figures

As of March 2022, 2 239 licences have been awarded for 89 357 products (goods and services) in the EU market.

The number of EU Ecolabel products and licences keeps growing - figures of March 2022

The number of EU Ecolabel products has been increasing even during the pandemic, now reaching the unprecedented level of 89 357 products. The current number of EU Ecolabel awarded products is the highest ever registered. This shows a growing interest in green products from businesses, citizens and retailers.

Compared to September 2021 figures (last reporting exercise), there has been an:

  • Increase in the total number of awarded licences* (+182 licences = +9%)
  • Increase in the total number of awarded products (+5767 products = +7%)

* One licence is an EU Ecolabel contract including one or several awarded products in a same product group

The vast majority of EU Ecolabel product groups have witnessed an increase in both the number of licences and products. Ten new licences have been awarded for Tourist accommodation, the leading product group for awarded licences with a total of 461! Notably, the EU Ecolabel has been awarded to its first ever electronic display! Absorbent hygiene products, Furniture, and Indoor cleaning services recorded the highest increments, with absorbent hygiene products doubling in count!

Licences and products per country

As of March 2022, most licences are awarded in Germany (18%), Italy (16%) and France (15%). Similarly, the majority of products are awarded in Spain (20%), Italy (16%), Germany (12%) and France (10%).

Licences and products per product group

Out of the 2 239 licences in March 2022, the majority of them belong to the following product groups: Tourist accommodation services (21%), Hard surface cleaning products (14%) and Tissue paper and tissue products (9%).

The most popular product groups in terms of number of products are: Indoor and outdoor paints and varnishes (39%), Tissue paper and tissue products (17%), Textiles (9%) and Hard coverings (9%).

The vast majority of EU Ecolabel product groups have witnessed an increase in both the number of licences and products.
