Award Winners

The five winners of the first Natura 2000 Awards were announced at a ceremony in Brussels on 21 May 2014. Winners have been selected for each of the five categories: Conservation, Socio-Economic Benefits, Communication, Reconciling Interests/Perceptions, and Networking & Cross-Border Cooperation. All five winners received trophies from the European Commissioner for the Environment, Janez Potočnik, along with members of the award Jury.

“My warmest congratulations to these deserving winners!” said Commissioner Potočnik. “Natura 2000 is one of the EU's outstanding achievements, and it works because of the tireless efforts of people on the ground. These awards serve to highlight some of the great work that is being done across the EU by a host of site managers, public authorities, conservation organisations and volunteers, farmers, foresters, hunters and fishermen, scientists, teachers and many others besides. This is their day, and they richly deserve this success."
