Smaller goose (L 50 cm), unmistikable with black, white and brown plumage. During winter Red-breasted Goose is found on the steppes along sea coast. Breeding occurs in coloniesin the tundra near the coast. Migrant.

Reasons for the need for protection/inclusion in annex I

The winter population at the EU is not over 200 individuals. Deterioration of habitat, illegal hunting, especially during the morning roost flights, as well as disturbances are the major problems for the species.
