Barbary Partridge

Size (L 30 cm) of Red-legged Partridge (Alectoris rufa), the dark crown, "Sioux hair-style", is the most striking character. The Barbary Partridge inhabits predominantly open country with low vegetation, unimproved agricultural land or degraded maquis. The diet is mainly grasses and insects. Resident.

Reasons for the need for protection/inclusion in annex I

The Barbary Partridge is restricted to only three areas within the EU and is declining in the two most important ones, Sardinia and the Canary Islands, mainly beacuse of excessive hunting pressure .
