Bird species considered as "Priority for funding under LIFE"
Unlike the Habitats Directive, the Birds Directive does not distinguish between priority and non-priority species. However, for the purposes of LIFE funding, the LIFE Regulation provides a possibility for the Ornis Committee to adopt a list of bird species considered as priority for funding under the LIFE programme. The current version of that list, agreed by the Ornis Committee on 28 April 2021, takes into account the most recent available data on status and trends of bird populations in the EU (as reported by Member States to the Commission in 2019).
LIFE projects that focus on practical conservation measures for any of the species or sub-species on the list can benefit from a higher EU co-funding rate, up to 75 %. For further details please check the LIFE website.
