The Launch of “Generation Awake”

26 October 2011

The campaign “Generation Awake. Your choices make a world of difference!” was launched on Monday, 17 October in Warsaw by the European Commissioner for Environment – Janez Potočnik.

Water, clean air, soil, metals, minerals and all animal and plant species are natural resources needed for our everyday life. However, these are not a bottomless pit! How to use them economically and how to take care of the Earth better – this is the most important message of this European information campaign.

The Directorate General for Environment of the European Commission is responsible for coordinating the campaign in order to improve the   quality of life of European citizens, increase the competitiveness of the European economy through more effective use of natural resources and making conscious consumer choices.

The launch event was opened with a public debate with the participation of Commissioner Potočnik and Minister Kraszewski in the building of the Warsaw University of Technology. The representatives of non-governmental organizations, business and scientific circles expressed their opinions on existing and future consumption models, their impact on the quality of our life and the economy.
