Success story: Climate Week Hamburg – Europe’s largest climate change information event

26 October 2011

The biggest European event concerning sustainability, climate protection, climate science and climate adaptation, the third Climate Week Hamburg, was held 23-30 September and presented the scientific and economic competencies of Hamburg in the area of climate protection and Climate change management. Taking place for the third time, more that 120 exhibitors presented events and information in the respect of climate change. The Climate Week Hamburg 2011 came off very successful with highly increased numbers in visitors and exhibitors. The centrepiece, an interactive theme park in the central Shopping Mall Europa Passage invited to inform, engage, experience and discuss.

Focus education: A special education tent in front of the city hall next to the Europa Passage, took ideas and concepts of the Climate Week to schools. School classes learned about science, current climate protection measures and about sustainable behaviour in respect to climate change.

This year, with Hamburg being European Green Capital 2011, one highlight was the return of the Train of Ideas – with its interactive exhibition “Visions for future cities” – after touring through 18 European cities. Citizens and visitors of Hamburg enjoyed the various events and activities such as the “The Electro Mobility Mile” inviting to experience all forms of electro mobility first hand, the Solar-powered boat trips on Hamburg’s Binnenalster Lake or the open-air event “Organic Experience” at the city hall market presenting a variety of information concerning regionality, agriculture, natural circuits, quality and taste.
