EMAS Club promotes Corporate Social Responsibility

Italian EMAS Club Friuli Venezia Giulia hosted the event “Companies, Social Responsibility and Sustainability Tools”

On 28 November 2016 the Italian EMAS Club Friuli Venezia Giulia opened its doors to host the conference “Companies, Social Responsibility and Sustainability Tools” in Udine, Italy. The event addressed the promotion of corporate social responsibility within the private sector.

Dr. Silvia Stefanelli from “Animaimpresa” and Dr. Piero Petrucco from I.CO.P. SpA, a partner company of Animaimpresa, explained the important role that company networks play in promoting corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainable development. According to Dr. Stefanelli and Dr. Petrucco, business relationships and environmental management systems (EMSs) can help companies boost their competitiveness. Animaimpresa is an Italian association that promotes CSR and EMSs as essential factors in private companies’ sustainable development agenda.

Dr. Roberto Sbruazzo and Dr. Stefania del Frate from ARPA FVG, Friuli Venezia Giulia’s regional environmental agency, presented “InformImpresa”, a brand new information desk for companies in the region that encourages the exchange of information and know-how on legislative changes and environmental authorisation procedures. The information desk also promotes environmental-specific training courses for companies located in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.

Concluding the event, Dr. Francesco Bianco presented his thesis on the ecological footprint of home furniture manufacturers in the “Livenza” industrial area, situated in Italy’s Pordenone province. He recommends transforming the area into an eco-industrial park and assesses the feasibility of promoting a local and sustainable furniture brand that would attract investors.

The speakers thus highlighted the benefits available to companies through networking and discussing environmental issues, as well as identifying available support and providing examples of increased competitiveness.
