The knowledge

Environment policy needs to be backed by solid science. This ensures political legitimacy and it builds public trust. For this to happen, information about the environment has to be credible and comparable, its quality needs to be beyond doubt, and it must be easily accessible.

The EU has set itself an objective of improving the evidence base for environment policy.

In this section you can find out how that is happening, through initiatives to provide better information for policymakers, boost scientific research, and coordinate environment policy through a seventh Environment Action Programme.
