Since 1992, LIFE has contributed to the implementation, updating and development of EU environmental policy and legislation by co-financing pilot or demonstration projects with European added value.
LIFE has been continuously supporting innovative projects that upgrade energy technologies and processes - both in the public and private sectors - all over the EU.

This 2010 video looks back at the achievements of the LIFE Nature Programme since it was founded in 1992. Since its launch, LIFE Nature has co-funded more than 1100 projects across the EU, providing €1 billon to projects. Over 2000 Natura 2000 sites have been targeted by LIFE funds, as well as more than 400 species, targeted in the Annexes of the Birds & Habitats directives. View the video.
This 2010 video summarises some of the main challenges awaiting LIFE Nature and Biodiversity presented during the 'LIFE Nature and Biodiversity – preparing the future' conference. This international event took place in Brussels on 31 May and 1 June 2010. It attracted more than 350 participants who discussed the future of LIFE Nature and Biodiversity, both in terms of what can still be done under the current LIFE Regulation and of the way in which a future Regulation might be structured. This 2011 video looks back at the achievements of the LIFE Environment Programme since it was founded in 1992. Since its launch, LIFE Environment has co-funded some 1840 projects across the EU, providing €1 billon to projects. LIFE Environment has co-funded projects in many fields, including resource efficiency, eco-products creation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, implementation of the Water Framework Directive, waste management or sustainable agricultural practices. The platform meeting on Climate Action in Urban Areas brought together LIFE project beneficiaries, urban planning experts, competent local, national European and international authorities, and other stakeholders to share knowledge and discuss how best to advance climate change adaptation (CCA) and mitigation (CCM) in urban areas.
