The EU Member States represented on the LIFE Committee, together with the LIFE Unit, have identified the 12 Best LIFE-Climate action projects completed during 2016-2017.
This Best LIFE-Climate action Projects' exercise, follows on from a lengthy identification and evaluation process based on a set of best practice criteria, developed by EU Member States in collaboration with the European Commission.
The objective of the exercise is to help improve the dissemination of LIFE project results by clearly identifying those projects whose results, if widely applied, could have the most positive impact on the environment.
A further 12 exemplary projects have been awarded "Best" project status.

All completed projects are initially assessed by technical monitoring experts. The monitors rank all the projects that end during the reference period to produce a first list of "Best" projects. The final evaluation is undertaken by the Member States, each "Best" project being further evaluated by at least two Member States, and an average score is established also taking into account the monitors' evaluation. The 3 top scoring projects in each category are the Best of the Best projects. The projects are awarded under three categories: Nature, Environment, and Environment with a particular focus on climate action.
