Helmut Maurer, Waste Management & Recycling Unit, Directorate-General for the Environment, European Commission

Helmut graduated in law from Würzburg University in 1984, he holds 2 State Exams in law from Freestate of Bavaria, Germany and a PhD in comparative employment law from Trier University, 1990. He worked as an advocate for civil law and public planning law in Frankfurt. He obtained different tenures as professor and presently holds a chair for European Union law and international commercial law at Technische Hochschule Nürnberg, Georg-Simon-Ohm. He joined the European Commission in 2002 as principal lawyer, first working in Directorate General Employment on European employment law and policy, in 2006 he joined Directorate General Environment working on waste law implementation issues and waste policy.
