Karen Allacker, Assistant Professor, Department of Architecture, KU Leuven
Prof. Dr. Karen Allacker graduated in 2001 from the Faculty of Engineering Science at the Katholic University of Leuven (KU Leuven), Belgium. In 2010 she obtained her Ph.D. Degree at the same university focusing on Sustainable Building. For several years (2001-2012) she worked as a researcher at the KU Leuven, department of Architecture. In 2012-2013 she worked as a scientific officer for the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, for the Institute for Environment and Sustainability – Sustainability Assessment Unit. She collaborated in the development of the PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) method. Since 2013 she is assistant professor at the department of Architecture (ASRO) of the KU Leuven. Her research focus lies in the field of sustainable building focusing on an integrated assessment of economic, environmental and performance aspects from a life cycle perspective, i.e. combining Life Cycle Costing (LCC), Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and multi-criteria analysis. Her research covers different scale levels of the built environment, ranging from building materials, over building elements to buildings and neighbourhoods with particular attention to the early design phase.
