Tomás Michel Mayer

Born in Barcelona, 1957, Mr. Tomas Michel holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of California at Davis, USA. Author of 33 scientific peer reviewed, and technical publications.

A Fulbright, Austin Eugene Lyons, Jastro Shields Graduate Research, and Spanish Ministry of Education & Sciences Postgraduate fellow, from 1981 to 1990, he has been exclusively dedicated to scientific research in anaerobic microbiology (metabolism and bioenergetics), both in Spain and the USA.

In 1990, he changes from academy to private enterprise. First responsibilities still imply R&D activity, to gradually get more and more involved with commercial responsibilities at ABT (a Spanish biotec company involved in water treatment), to move on to managing the Division for Waste Water Treatment at Culligan Spain, and then to managing a business unit at US Filter Sation (today a part of Veolia). During these ten years technical knowledge and ample experience in equipment and technologies for water treatment are acquired.

 In 1999, changes again sector of activity to engage during 7 years at CODIFESA, with commercial and marketing responsibilities opening new markets in Central Europe, Eastern Europe and Asia (brewing and carbonated soft drink sector). Since June 2006, returns to the water sector joining Deisa (a Spanish water engineering company) to initiate export activities promoting advanced oxidation technology for the treatment of difficult industrial wastewaters. During this period engages heavily in international market prospection and large engineering projects in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Ireland.

Since September 2009, active at AGBAR (a filial of Suez Environnement), where in his actual function of Manager Development R&D, he holds the position of General Manager of AGBAR’s Water Technology Center “CETaqua”, but is also responsible for the geographical growth of the CETaqua model, establishing new Technology Centers, both in Spain and abroad.
