4.9 Daring to be different: non-conventional water resources

Non-conventional water resources like treated waste water and desalinated water are being promoted as an important means of meeting the demand for water in countries where it is scarce, and the use of such resources is widespread in certain areas of the EU, including the Mediterranean.

This session will provide information on the use of these resources and their associated environmental impacts, asking how they can be used to meet demand in the most efficient way. But what about the energy cost of these activities, and how does the environmental quality of this water compare to other sources?
