2.6 What's in the pipeline for Rio+20?

24 May - 09.30 - 11.00

Rio+20, the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (20 to 22 June 2012) will offer a unique opportunity to secure renewed political commitment to sustainable development at all levels. The hope is that political leaders will agree on a shared vision for change, backed by measureable goals and tangible actions. One of the main themes will be the green economy, as resources like water, oceans, land and ecosystems form the basis of our economies, and if managed sustainably, can form the basis of a global green economy, ultimately eradicating poverty. This session will focus on the water-related aspects of Rio+20. It will reflect on the implementation of internationally agreed goals for water and sanitation, best practices, and lessons learned. It will also look into interdependencies between water, energy and food as the underlying natural resources water, land and soil and discuss what should be the result of Rio in the area of water and related areas.
