Round table on the assessment of the environmental impacts of pumped hydro energy storage

From 23 May 2012, 14:30 to 23 May 2012, 16:00

Brussels - Belgium

What level of environmental impacts is acceptable in order to protect our water resources while trying to balance our energy needs?

This round table event invites all interested stakeholders to a discussion on the future of pumped hydro energy storage as a means to increase the contribution of large scale variable renewable energy sources such as wind to the electricity grid. We explore the significant environmental impacts of these large scale facilities in the context of optimum siting and undertaking EIA for new developments. Further discussions take place with regards to key policy instruments such as the Water Framework Directive, the Habitats Directive, the Renewable Energy Directive and other relevant documents.
