Mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz

Javier Maroto is the mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz. Bachelor of Economics and Business Studies at Deusto University and Master in Management and Public Administrations at the IESE Business School. Before embarking on a political career, he worked for several companies linked to new technologies. After the PP won the local elections in 1999, Javier Maroto served as deputy mayor and councillor of the Tresury Department, a responsibility he held during the eight years the PP was in office (1999-2007). From 2008 to 2011, he led the opposition in the City Council of Vitoria-Gasteiz as the PP spokesperson. He has been the current mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz, the capital of the Basque Country, since June, 2011.
