Mr. Pär Holmgren, Meteorologist - SVT
Apart from a very brief period working as an officer and meteorologist in the Swedish
air force, followed by a slightly longer time as a PhD student and teacher at the University in
Uppsala
, Pär Holmgren has spent most of his working time in or around the newsrooms and studios of SVT, the Swedish public service broadcaster.
In the late 90s he managed to form a Weather Department for the whole company, a department now consisting of six
full time meteorologists and another ten working part time. Ever since he began study meteorology, he has been much more interested in climate change than the daily changes in the ordinary weather.
During the last five years, Pär Holmgren has been giving a lot of lectures about climate change in different parts of
Sweden
.
In 2006 he published a book about the current weather and the climate of the future. The book, "The weathermen's weather book” was nominated best popular science book of the year. The book, together with dozens of interviews in all the major Swedish newspapers during the autumn, was probably the main reason
why one of the leading papers in Sweden listed him as one of the 100 most important and powerful people, all categories, in the country, and top 5 among people working with television.
A couple of years ago he also managed to record and produce a music video about the fact that we have to get used to winters without snow in Sweden in the near future. A video that also gave the (non-existent) band a special guest slot at the currently biggest rock festival in
Sweden
.
