Mr. Piernando Binaghi, Responsible for TV and radio weather programs
Since 1980, Piernando has been a member of the Schiaparelli Astronomical Observatory in Varese (Italy) for astronomy and meteorology divulgation. In 1991, he obtained a degree in Aeronautical Engineering and started working in 1999 for RTSI – Televisione Svizzera (Lugano – Switzerland), where he is now responsible for weather news programs on two TV channels, three Radio channels, and for contents on the RTSI web site (www.rtsi.ch/meteo). He presented several programmes on meteorology for children on TSI Televisione Svizzera.
As a journalist, he works on the TV weather news programmes and several programmes on science. He gives many public presentations on weather and climate, particularly at schools in both Switzerland and Italy. He often writes in Swiss newspapers, and establishes collaboration with “Giornale del Popolo” by discussing climate phenomena and global warming every two weeks. In 2002, during the 12th edition of the French weather festival (Festival de la Météo), he received the French Press Club award for his presentation and the weather programme he directs. In 2008, the President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, conferred him the title of "Officer of the Italian Republic", for his role as an Italian abroad.

Mr. Andrea Giuliacci, Weather presenter Italia 1
Andrea Giuliacci graduated in physics at the University of Milan, with a thesis on the impact of El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon upon the Italian environment. He has been working for Epson Meteo since 1998, regularly presenting weather forecast on the national-wide broadcaster Italia 1.
He usually appears on the noon news edition of Studio Aperto, reaching out to some 1.8 million viewers. He is a contributor for the monthly magazine Newton and formerly also a columnist for La Macchina del Tempo.He is author of Climate Heroes (in Italian), a book dedicated to climate change. Andrea is also co-author of Weather forecast on the Net, The Metereology Book and Metereology from the Sea, all in Italian and published by Alpha Test.
"I have decided to join this Network because I think it is very important to communicate what is happening about climate change: I believe it is the first step to fight Global Warming and to adapt to future environmental modification. This is why I’m communicating climate change by talking to the youth and writing books and articles."

Mr. Luca Mercalli, Chairman of the Italian Meteorologist Society
Luca Mercalli is a researcher in the field of climatology and glaciology. He has a university background in agrometeorology and 25 years of activity in Italian public institutes and private companies. He is president of the Società Meteorologica Italiana (Italian Meteorological Society, est. 1865) www.nimbus.it and editor in chief of the journal “Nimbus”, which he founded in 1993.
He has written 90 scientific papers, 7 books and over 700 articles for newspapers and magazines. Communicating
climatic change is one of his tasks performed through 500 public conferences and school talks. He is also member of ASPO Italia, the national section of the Association for the study of peak-oil (www.peakoil.net). Concerning broadcast he is currently active in the third national TV channel RAI3 with the programme “Che tempo che fa” (www.chetempochefa.rai.it) and on the second national channel RAI 2 “TG Montagne” (http://www.montagne.rai.it/).
He was born in
Turin
in 1966, and now his headquarters are located in the Western Alps not far from the Mont Cenis pass, in a little medieval castle at
630 m, inside a chestnut wood. His home is fully solar-powered and his vegetables self-grown.
