The ENRD and DG AGRI participated at the National and European Ploughing Championships in Ireland. This event also hosted the biggest trade fair for agricultural machinery in Ireland, with livestock exhibitions, a tented trade village and several other specialist trade areas.

The small farm debate has taken on special significance with the last two EU enlargements of 2004 and 2007, more than tripling the number of subsistence and semi-subsistence farmers to 11 million in the EU-27. Some 140 people attended a seminar entitled ‘Semi-subsistence farming in the EU: current situation and future prospects’, organised by the ENRD in Romania in 2010.

The EU Rural Cooperation Fair was held at the Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh. Around 270 delegates from 23 EU Member States came to the two day event organised by the Scottish National Rural Network in partnership with the ENRD.
