Group of experts

A group of independent radiation protection and public health experts is attached to the European Commission to help the EU make decisions concerning radioactivity. The members of the group are appointed for five years at a time by the Scientific and Technical Committee set up under the Euratom Treaty. These terms are renewable.

The Commission is obliged to consult the group for advice every time that it updates the Basic Safety Standards Directive – safety rules for radiation in applications such as medicine and research.
