On 6 November 2014, the European Commission organised the "Sustainable Energy in Central Asia: Business Opportunities and Technology Transfer" conference. It focused on the potential for enhancing EU - Central Asia business cooperation in renewable energy and energy efficiency, given the significant untapped potential in the region and the strong expertise and know-how developed by EU industry.
This event gathered over 80 participants, including senior level officials from governments in Central Asia, representatives from key international financing institutions, recognised international organisations, and European companies already active in Central Asia. The main policies and investment plans in the region, the key obstacles to an effective development of sustainable energy, and the EU public and private involvement in Central Asia were discussed during the three sessions. The participants also suggested and discussed how to better promote, finance, and deploy sustainable energy projects in the region.
The conference provided a valuable platform for all relevant stakeholders to meet and exchange ideas on the rich opportunities for sustainable energy investments, trade and business cooperation with Central Asia.
