The Energy and Managing Authorities (EMA) Network brings together representatives of national energy authorities with representatives of Cohesion Policy Managing Authorities dealing with energy. It aims to help EU countries make the best possible use of Cohesion Policy funding to promote energy efficiency, renewable energy and smart energy infrastructure, as well as energy-related research and innovation.
Cohesion Policy funding amounts to almost €30 billion for the 2014 – 2020 period – more than double the amount spent during the 2007-2013 period - thus making an important contribution to the Energy Union.
Meeting twice a year, the network acts as an informal platform to exchange information, share good practices, experiences and latest developments. Working groups will also be convened to work on specific issues, where needed and relevant.
Sixth meeting of the EMA Network 20-21 November 2017
The meeting addressed the latest developments in EU policies and Cohesion Policy in the energy field, including the State of the Energy Union reporting, and presented new initiatives from the European Commission such as Clean Energy for EU Islands, Smart Finance for Smart Buildings, and policies to help coal mining regions in transition.
The synergies between the use of European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) and initiatives announced in the recent Communication on Strengthening Innovation in Europe's Regions and regional cooperation in the context of high level groups such as CESEC (Central and South-Eastern European Gas Connectivity) were also discussed.
Opening remarks (video message) by Dominique Ristori, Director General of DG Energy.
