The new web platform GreenDairyNet (GDN) connects experts interested in the sustainable development of the dairy industry. The network focuses on resource-efficient processing technologies. Participants share and reflect on concrete scientific and technological developments, business experiences and trends from along the whole dairy chain. This new network allows the registered members to share knowledge and skills with other professionals in the sector with the same interests and vision.
Whether you are a dairy producer, a food researcher, a technology provider or a member of an association or cluster, you can meet experts from all over Europe through the GDN platform. Get to know and contact them directly and open new doors and opportunities of exchange for you and your organisation.
The dairy sector production chain
The dairy sector in Europe is facing big challenges. It needs strong and strategic cooperation throughout the chain to increase competitiveness in the new quota-free scenario. Every part of the chain is interlinked, the needs of one is important to the whole chain and the improvement of one of the links strengthens the whole system. Fostering innovation through interaction and collaborative environments is a cornerstone for this and it is at the heart of GreenDairyNet.
Communities of knowledge
Members of GreenDairyNet can lead their own discussions creating new communities through the platform. These virtual communities allow the users to focus on specific topics and benefit from the knowledge of the network. You may get to know examples from the Global Dairy Agenda for Action (GDAA) on reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, you can exchange information about calls, initiatives and interests regarding the Horizon 2020 programme, discuss different approaches for analysing the environmental impacts of dairies and the possibilities for reducing them or create a new community to reflect on other topics which you may find interesting. Members also post about news and events from the dairy sector in Europe, and they can distribute interesting documents. Share your expertise and discuss different green topics!
An initiative from SUSMILK
The GreenDairyNet is an initiative from the collaborative project ‘Re-design of the dairy industry for sustainable milk processing’ (SUSMILK), funded from the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme and led by Fraunhofer UMSICHT. The project is focused on analysing and optimising the whole process chain for milk and milk products with regard to energy and water consumption. It aims at developing new concepts and technologies for the supply of heat, cold and power and integrating them into the respective process steps.
