Knowing the quality and the amount of grass produced at any given time is important for farmers who want to manage the feed intake of their grazing cattle. The GrassQ project is developing a precision measurement technique for farmers to improve their farm grassland and grazing systems. “The goal of the project is to optimise the quantity, quality, the efficient utilisation, and ultimately also the profitability of a grass-based diet for dairy cows, while keeping labour requirements to a minimum”, says Bernadette O’Brien from Agriculture and Food Development Authority Teagasc.
