The association is working towards promoting agroecology for the sustainable development of farming and food systems.
They give priority to on-field research, holistic and participatory approaches, and transdisciplinarity that includes different knowledge systems.
The association will map agroecology practices in Europe, promoting and developing practices for the sustainable use of local renewable resources, local farmers’ knowledge, careful use of biodiversity to provide ecosystem services and resilience, and solutions that provide multiple benefits (environmental, economic, social) from the local to the global scale.

Agroecology Europe’s secretary Alain Peeters says “Agroecology acknowledges that the whole is more than the sum of its parts and hence fosters interactions between actors from scientific disciplines, practice and movements, by facilitating knowledge sharing and action.”
