Hankkeen tavoitteena on tuottaa ja käyttää termisen kaasutuksen tuotekaasua lisäämään metaanituotantoa AD-biokaasulaitoksella, ja samalla tuottaa biohiiltä. Tämä mahdollistaa puumaisten materiaalien käytön biokaasuenergiatuotannon lisäämiseksi kustannustehokkaasti ja kasvattamatta biokaasulaitoksen mädätteen määrää. Kokonaiskonsepti tähtää hiilinegatiivisen energian tuotantoon ja tehokkaaseen ravinteiden kierrätykseen.

Objective of the project (in English):

The project aims to produce and use the gasification gas to boost methane formation in the biogas process, and simultaneously produce biochar. This enables the use of woody materials in biogas energy production without increasing the amount of digestate from the biogas process. This also effects on biogas plant’s thermal economy. The concept enables the production of biomethane from forest residues and waste wood, providing a cost-effective way to increase the productivity of traditional biogas plant. The project enables the use of the same equipment for the simultaneous production of biochar and product gas in an energy-efficient process, making the production of carbon-negative energy a reality

Wood2Biogas project combines gasification technology and traditional anaerobic biogas process. Technology development aims to produce and use the gasification gas to boost methane formation in the biogas plant, and simultaneously produce biochar. This enables the use of woody materials in biogas energy production without increasing the amount of digestate from the biogas plant. This also has a positive effect on biogas plant’s thermal economy.

Alongside the technology development work of the innovation group, the Wood2Biogas project is developing agri symbiosis through cooperation and communication, where bioeconomy entrepreneurs and rural actors can gain synergies for their activities. In addition to biomethane, thermal energy, fertilizers and soil improvers, the product range includes biochar generated during the gasification process. These products that meet the sustainability criteria are usable for different actors to achieve carbon neutrality.

The Wood2Biogas concept enables the production of biomethane from forest residues and waste wood, providing a cost-effective way to increase the productivity of traditional biogas plant. Wood2Biogas-projekti yhdistää kaasutusteknologian ja perinteisen anaerobisen biokaasuprosessin. Teknologian kehitystyön tavoitteena on tuottaa ja käyttää puuperäistä kaasutuskaasua lisäämään metaanin muodostumista biokaasulaitoksella ja tuotaa samalla biohiiltä. Tämä mahdollistaa puumaisten materiaalien käytön biokaasun energiantuotannossa lisäämättä biokaasuprosessin mädätteen määrää. Tällä on myönteinen vaikutus myös biokaasulaitoksen lämpötalouteen.
Innovaatioryhmän teknologiakehitystyön ohella hankkeessa kehitetään yhteistyön ja viestinnän kautta maatalouden symbioosia, jossa biotalouden yrittäjät ja maaseudun toimijat voivat saada synergiaa toiminnalleen. Tuotevalikoimaan kuuluu biometaanin, lämpöenergian, lannoitteiden ja maanparannusaineiden lisäksi kaasutusprosessin yhteydessä syntyvä biohiili. Nämä kestävyyskriteerit täyttävät tuotteet ovat eri toimijoiden käytettävissä hiilineutraaliuden, jopa hiilinegatiivisuuden saavuttamiseksi.
Wood2Biogas-konsepti mahdollistaa biometaanin tuotannon metsätähteistä ja jätepuusta, mikä tarjoaa kustannustehokkaan tavan lisätä perinteisen biokaasulaitoksen tuottavuutta.
