Berlin Demography Days, 22 to 24 March 2021

At the Berlin Demography Days 2021, you will have the opportunity to discuss current issues of German, European and global population developments with international experts from the policy arena, societal organisations and the world of research.

On the first day, the Berlin Demography Forum, we will have a panel discussion focusing on the topic "The Baby Boomers are Retiring – Chances and Challenges for Generational Fairness". We are delighted that European Commission Vice-President Dubravka Šuica has agreed to give a keynote address at the event. Afterwards, the European Demographer Awards — donated by the Förderfonds Wissenschaft in Berlin — will be presented to four outstanding young researchers from Barcelona, London, Oxford / Odense and Paris.

On the second day, the European Demography Forum will take place. Internationally renowned researchers will discuss with you the connection between demography, democracy and the welfare state in Europe. The lectures will deal, for example, with the question of equal access to the welfare state, aspects of generational justice, issues of social inequality and the effects of demographic changes on the composition of the electorate.

On the third day, the Global Demography Forum, we will look at how we can use data to solve current problems of the Global South. Leading researchers from Asia, Africa, Europe and the USA will present research results on the topics of ageing society, family and fertility, gender, human capital, migration and mortality.

You can find a complete programme in English or German under the following links. The current list of participants is attached below.

Due to the limited number of participants, we kindly ask you to register early here.

You can register for all three days, or for individual forums.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be held online (via Zoom). Simultaneous translation will be provided.

We are pleased to welcome you to the Berlin Demography Days. Stay healthy!
