Activity details

Linked in with the Ageing Well agenda in Wales, Active Ageing is a beacon project that will activate the older population as assets within their communities and, by doing so, reduce loneliness and isolation, and improve health outcomes. Spice will repurpose its tested Time Credits methodology to provide new sources of support for people as they age, as well as working with services to reconfigure existing provision. Time Credits are a Complementary Currency that encourages people to give their time to help their communities, e.g. giving time to help run social activities, providing peer support, etc. Individuals gain one Time Credit for each hour that they give. Each Credit has a one hour value. They can then spend that Time Credit to access an hour’s worth of activity within Spice’s national network of community, local government, and corporate Time Spend partners, including leisure, sporting, cultural and historical venues such as the Tower of London or the Barbican Centre. The project will focus on improving the following impact areas: 1. Improved Mental Wellbeing 2. Improved social networks and social capital 3. Improved quality of life. 4. Increased physical health. 5. Reduction in accessing formal services and increase in accessing community services
