Activity details

MIND&GAIT is a multi-collaborative project that aims to promote independent living in frail older adults by improving cognition and gait ability and using assistive products. It targets older adults aged with 65 or more years from elderly end-user organizations. It incorporates a transdisciplinary strategy within an 24-month period and it is expected as project main deliverables: i) a structured and good-practice based combined intervention consisted on a cognitive stimulation program and a physical exercise program; ii) an auto-blocking mechanism for rolling walkers with pressure and balance sensors and led light; iii) a randomized clinical trial to assess the effectiveness of the combined intervention; and iv) a web platform as digital solution to be used as a repository that will support and disseminate the intervention materials, covering the line of action of translational research.

Achieved main deliverables: - A digital cognitive stimulation program available from a mobile application and a web platform. - An ebook containing the physical exercise program - An autoblocking kit mechanism for rolling walkers instrumented with technological components - A web platform for knowledge exchange that will work also as repository of combined intervention supportive and educational materials - Academic research collaborations and multi-stakeholder partnerships Preliminary results showed positive effects on the improvement of cognitive and physical functions, functionality and depressive symptomatology. The interregional geographical coverage induced by MIND&GAIT underlines the potential replicability of the project extension to the community in Portugal and in other countries in similar contexts. The MIND&GAIT is already being disseminated
