Tibor Navracsics, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport opens the 8th Ministerial Western Balkans Platform on Education and Training in Belgrade. Ministers of Education from the region have been invited to review the state of educational systems in their countries, learn about the latest EU initiatives, identify priorities, and agree on follow-up to studies and reports and deeper cooperation.
The programme includes two presentations by representatives of UNICEF and the International Step by Step association, introducing the subject. Two roundtable debates with Ministers are following the presentations.
A specific session is organised to cover regional developments in the topics of education and training. These developments benefit from programmes of the European Commission like the pilot VET mobility scheme, the Western Balkans Alumni Association or the steady increase of the Erasmus+ funds allocated to the region.
Representatives of regional and international organisations such as the European Training Foundation (ETF), the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), the OECD, the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO), the Western Balkan Alumni Association (WBAA) and representatives from Member States are attending the meeting.
